I.D.: Sexes similar. Breeding: black crown, throat and bib; gray face; white underparts; pink-orange bill; black streaks on the flanks; mottled upperparts. Non-breeding: brown face; buffy flanks. Size: L 71/2 in. (19 cm). Range: very rare migrant along the eastern slopes of the Rockies. Habitat: roadsides, shrubby vegetation, forest edges and thickets in the foothills and the montane. |
