American Golden-Plover

Pluvialis dominica

I.D.: Sexes similar: dark back speckled with gold; black mask, throat, belly and undertail coverts; straight, black bill; long legs; white stripe across the forehead and down through the shoulders.

Size: L 10-11 in. (25-28 cm).

Range: rare spring migrant throughout the Rockies.

Habitat: lake edges, shorelines, mudflats, agricultural fields, pastures, golf courses, airports and backwaters in the foothills and the montane.
