I.D.: Sexes similar: straight, black bill; black legs. Non-breeding: white underparts; sandy upperparts; black line down the white rump and tail. Breeding: rufous-mottled head, neck and upperparts; white belly. Size: L 7-81/2 in. (18-22 cm). Range: rare spring and fall migrant in the Rockies. Habitat: shores of lakes, reservoirs and marshes. |
