
Larus canusI.D.: Sexes similar: small bill; dark eyes; small body size. Breeding: light gray upperparts; white head and underparts; all-yellow bill; black wing tips with large white spots; yellow legs. Non-breeding: black-tipped bill; black, terminal tail band and wing tips; brown mottling on the head and underparts. Size: L 15-16 in. (38-41 cm). Range: accidental migrant in the southern U.S. Rockies; rare to uncommon migrant in the Canadian Rockies; winters in small numbers in western Montana. Habitat: migrant through open habitats. |
