Parasitic Jaeger

Stercorarius parasiticus

I.D.: Sexes similar: long, pointed, dark wings; slightly longer, pointed central tail feathers; brown upperparts; dark cap; light underwing tips. Light phase: white underparts; white to cream-colored collar; light brown neck band. Dark phase: all brown underparts and collar. Juvenile: barred underparts; central tail feather extends just past the tail.

Size: L 18 in. (46 cm).

Range: rare spring migrant and very rare fall migrant throughout the Rockies.

Habitat: migrant through open habitats.
