Aechmophorus clarkiiI.D.: Sexes similar: black upperparts; white underparts; face is mostly white (to above the eyes); long, slim, yellow-orange bill; short tail; long neck. Size: L 21-23 in. (53-58 cm). Range: uncommon in the central and southern U.S. Rockies; rare in the Rockies north of Yellowstone NP. Habitat: large lakes and reservoirs with vegetated shallows in the foothills and the montane. |
